South Iredell Fire-Rescue was established April 2nd, 1966 by six landowners looking for better fire protection for their homes and farms in the Coddle Creek Township of Southern Iredell County. At the time, fire departments came from many miles away and were typically delayed. South Iredell Fire-Rescue would then provide the residents and landowners of this rural area with better protection from fire and other emergencies. In 2015, we made our first major advancement in 50 years. We moved from our original firehouse to a new station to better suit our apparatus, membership, and community. The need for fire protection and emergency medical care in our area has grown exponentially over the past 20 years with new home construction and economic infrastructure in nearby towns. From our original six members, to the forty plus that serve today, we are committed to our Mission Statement; minimizing the loss of life and property from the effects of fire, medical, rescue, or other hazardous emergencies, and to render assistance as required. 2019 was a record breaking year for us. Responding to over 500 incidents and 6,400 total hours of training, which is 50 incidents and over 4,000 hours more than 2018 alone. 2020 has sure challenged each and every one of us but the Courage and Loyalty shown by our current membership has proven we are stronger than ever. South Iredell continues to strive to provide the best service to our community through timely response to emergencies, training, and positive public relations.
Fire Chief Jerry Starr and the membership of South Iredell Fire-Rescue are proud to announce the lowering of our fire suppression rating. Effective 9/1/2020, the rating for properties within the South Iredell Fire district will reflect an ISO Class 4 rating. These inspections are required on a regular basis as part of the North Carolina Response Rating System (NCRRS) Things such as proper staffing levels, sufficient equipment, proper maintenance of equipment, communication capabilities, and availability of a water source are what directly affects rating changes. The higher rating South Iredell received indicates that overall we are better equipped to respond to fires within our district. Your homeowners insurance rates should benefit from this new rating. If you haven't seen a premium adjustment contact your insurance company and make them aware of the new rating immediately. If you have questions or are unsure if your property is in our fire district feel free to contact us.
A huge Thank You goes out to each of our Officers, Board of Directors, Administration Staff, Part-time Staff, Volunteers and Live-In members. Without your hard work, dedication and commitment to our community none of this would have been possible.
